Some people prefer the wild profile of a beach covered in pebbles. Some others prefer rocks because they know they are not too popular, so waters are clear and offer excellent snorkelling activities. But what do you do if you prefer sand?
Luckily, Corfu has a wide variety of sandy beaches, some of them empty and isolated, others with access to amenities. If you like hanging around fine sand and walking into shallow waters with no risks whatsoever, here are some of the best sandy beaches to sunbathe in Corfu.
Glyfada
You can never go wrong with Glyfada. Often seen as a cosmopolitan beach, it is quite large and offers access to a few facilities as well. It is a short drive from the old town, right in the middle of the west coast, so it is not too difficult to access.
If you happen to be in the area, it is worth noting that surrounding beaches are similar. You can also go into the water without too much risk, as it is shallow and clear.
Agios Gordios
Agios Gordios is also a large beach in the southwestern side of Corfu. Get ready for shallow waters, clear enough for you to admire the marine life. You will also live the golden sands, not to mention the green lush surrounding the beach.
The beach is relatively close to the old town as well. Moreover, there are a few facilities, so you can always have something to eat or drink.
Ipsos
Located in the north east of Corfu, Ipsos has an impressive surface and provides access to various amenities. The beach is a magnet for families due to its size and facilities, but also because waters are warm and shallow.
Isou
You may find Isou under more names. The beach is located in the south west of Corfu. It is massive, so there is room for everyone. Given its open design, it also attracts windsurfing enthusiasts, as well as people who love sailing.
The beach is backed by a large cedar forest, which adds to its dramatic views.
Mirtiotissas
Mirtiotissas has both sand and a few rocks here and there. Gerald Durrell described this beach as the most beautiful one in Europe, so it is totally worth a visit.
While nudism in Greece is only accepted at nudist resorts, this is one of those beaches where people go nude. Unofficially, of course.
It can be accessed by sea or a narrow footpath. It is relatively small and clear, so there are no facilities.
