The Schulenburg Statue is a memorial to Johann Matthias Reichsgraf von der Schulenburg, who lived between 1661 and 1747. The marble statue was originally erected in the Old Fortress. It was relocated to its current position by the British though. The tactician is known for defending Corfu against the Turks during two separate invasions. One battle defied all the odds, as he and his 5000 soldiers repelled 30000 invaders. The statue was erected by Venetians. When he finished serving in the army, he became a grand collector and patron in Venice. He came from an aristocrat family with many notable members.
