The former house of Dionysios Solomos is now a museum. It faces the old port across the waterfront road and hosts a series of items belonging or related to the poet. He is better known for the Hymn to Liberty, which became Greece’s national anthem. Dionysios Solomos moved to Corfu for a more stimulating intellectual environment. He also enjoyed isolation for his bizarre character. Soon after moving on the island, he became one of the main figures in the area. He also taught and contributed to the birth of the solomian poets, a group that included Iakovos Polylas, Gerasimos Markoras and Ioulios Typaldos – three of Greece’s biggest poets.
