No one knows the exact building time of the Mirtiotissa Monastery. Most information comes from father Amvrosios Paktitis and his manuscripts. He served the monastery until 1956. The place is dedicated to Virgin Mary due to an icon found by father Daniel after having a vision. Although it took multiple robberies and raids from pirates and other invaders, the monastery is still up and running. It undergoes a long restoration process. It is slow, as it is mostly based on donations. However, results are visible from one year to another. Located between the villages of Pelekas and Vatos, the monastery is a must for those who seek a little tranquillity.
