Paxos is one of the main beaches to visit if you are in Corfu and you have already finished exploring the island. It may be small, but it does have a few attractions. Throw in the crystal clear waters and the tranquillity and you have the perfect destination to recharge your batteries.
However, if you get to Paxos, you might as well go to Antipaxos, which is a smaller version. It is located around three kilometres away from Paxos and it barely measures five square kilometres. Less than 50 people call this place home.
According to local legends, all the small islands in this area were separated by Neptune’s trident while trying to create a comfy place to rest along with Amphitrite.
How To Get To Antipaxos
You can get from Paxos to Antipaxos by boat. Most boats depart from Gaios and there are quite a few local lines helping with transportation. Overall, it takes about 15 minutes to get from one island to another.
You can also rent your own boat locally. Someone will teach you the main manoeuvrers straight away, so you can get out into the sea within minutes only. It sounds crazy, but use common sense and be careful.
There are more places in Paxos to rent a boat from. If you want to make the most out of this experience, rent the boat in Lakka because it is further up in north. This way, you will be able to admire the stunning caves, cliffs, secluded beaches and clear waters of Paxos too.
Going from Paxos to Antipaxos will take around an hour if you rent a boat from Lakka.
What To Do In Antipaxos
You can walk the whole island relatively fast, especially given its size. There are only a few restaurants on the island and they only operate during the summertime.
You can explore plenty of vineyards in Antipaxos. After all, much of the wine made in Corfu is based on these vineyards.
Most people visit Antipaxos for the Voutoumi beach, which has some of the clearest waters you will ever see in your entire life. There are two tavernas here as well.
Mesovrika is another popular beach, covered in pebbles. It is more secluded, so it feels pretty private. Going from one beach to another takes about half an hour. You can do it walking over a dirt road that feels like crossing a village.
Bottom line, Antipaxos offers a different vibe because it feels empty and quiet. It is mainly about exploring tranquillity at its finest, but also about discovering some of the best views in the area.
