The Gardiki Castle was built in the 13th century and carries the Byzantine style standards. It is the only surviving medieval fortress located in the southern part of Corfu. It belonged to a structure of three castles defending the island, along with Angelokastro and the Kassiopi Castle. The olive tree by the entrance was planted when the castle was built, so it represents one of the oldest trees on the Island. Other than that, there are no official notes or guides on site. It does provide some good views though. If you get hungry or thirsty, there is a tavern nearby.
