The Cathedral of Saint James and Saint Christopher is far from being the size of a classic cathedral. Originally, it was a basilica. It also had a chapel dedicated to Saint Arsenius, known as the first bishop of Corfu. An explosion took it down in 1718, but a new temple was erected on site. No trace of these buildings can be seen today. The new building has a vague history, as it is hard to tell when it was actually built. There are several versions told by locals. All in all, the temple was consecrated in the last day of 1533 by the Latin Archbishop Jacobus Cocco.
