Established where the first Ionian Bank branch opened in 1840, the Banknote Museum of the Ionian Bank has literally every kind of banknote that was used by Greeks throughout history. It also includes coin notes and other related material. It covers close to two centuries of the country’s history. Special exhibitions are organized on a regular basis, apart from the permanent ones. The tour ends with the latest drachmas in circulation. They were withdrawn in 2002 and replaced by euros. Permanent exhibitions are available on the first floor, while the second one is more common for temporary exhibitions and conferences.
