The Venetian Arsenal from Gouvia represents a shipyard built by the Venetians. Back then, the area was known as the Govino Bay. The arsenal is practically an amalgam of ruins. The shipyard has three arched docks, which were most commonly used to service the fleets around Corfu. The roof is gone, but you can still admire other parts of the structure, such as the walls, arches and columns. The arsenal was no longer used after the Venetian Republic collapsed. Apart from being useful to the Venetians, the arsenal was also used as a military camp in the 18th century and a French base in the 20th century.
